Our goal is to nurture you into your new role as a parent.
What is a Postpartum Doula?
A Postpartum Doula is a trained, non-medical professional, who provides practical, confidential, non-judgemental, physical and emotional support to a family following a birth or adoption. Postpartum Doulas serve as an extra set of well-trained, trustworthy helping hands available to assist the entire family in their home during the postpartum period. A Postpartum Doula's goal is to work herself out of a job by encouraging and supporting parents' efforts to increase their knowledge, confidence and family harmony.
What do Postpartum Doulas do?
Postpartum Doulas do a little bit of everything to help a family adjust to life with a baby at home. Responsibilities may vary from day to day, as the needs of the family change. Postpartum doulas do whatever a mother needs to best enjoy and care for her new baby. Your Doula can: facilitate bonding with baby, teach mom and partner concrete strategies for baby care, assist with breastfeeding education, help you establish a routine, cook nutritious meals, run errands and much more!
How long does a Postpartum Doula spend with a family?
Doula support can last anywhere from one or two visits to more than three months.
What hours can I expect a Doula to work with my family?
We work a minimum of 4-hour shifts during the day and a minimum of 8-hour shifts at night. We are also available for longer shifts, as needed.
Do Doulas help mothers to deal with postpartum depression?
Unlike therapists or psychiatrists, Doulas do not treat postpartum depression. However, we will help by creating a safe space for the mother emotionally. We relieve some of the pressure on the new mother by helping her move into her new responsibilities gradually. By mothering the mother, we make sure that the mother feels nurtured and cared for, as well as ensuring she is eating well and getting enough sleep.
How much does it cost?
Doula services are surprisingly affordable! Hourly rates range from $30-50, depending on hours and number of infants. Various packages are available, depending on your families needs. Please contact us for more information.
How do I arrange to meet a Doula?
Please call us (786) 261-7359 to set up a free initial consultation. We will discuss your family’s needs, provide initial recommendations and answer any questions you may have about our services.
